  U.S., Vietnam Sign Food Pact  
  Aim to improve safety of exports  
  The United States and Vietnam signed a pact in Washington, D.C., on June 24 aimed at heightening the safety of food and feed traded between the two nations. Both countries agreed to cooperate to promote public health and to help ensure that products exported from both countries are safe and meet domestic and global standards.

  European Union Rejects U.S. Poultry Resolution  
  Applies to chlorine-treated poultry  
  The European Parliament rejected a proposal to allow imports of chlorine-treated poultry from the United States. Stating that such imports would be "out of step" with European ideals, the Parliament voted 526 to 27 to pass a resolution against the proposal. The plan calls for allowing chlorine-treated poultry meat from the United States for two years while studies are done.

  GAO Criticizes FDA Food Plan  
  Show details, investigative agency says  
  The Government Accountability Office (GAO), the investigative arm of Congress, isn't pleased with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) these days. The FDA has offered few details about the resources it needs to implement its Food Protection Plan, released in November 2007, GAO spokeswoman Lisa R. Shames said in a June 12 U.S. House subcommittee hearing.
